Public discussion on Blue Revolution: Opportunity or Disaster – Case Study of Jeneponto Regency

Bina Desa and the Sipitangarri Women Fishers Group (KPNS) held a live online open discussion on the findings based on Feminist Participatory Action Research (FPAR) on April 28, 2025. The Jeneponto District in South Sulawesi is one of the locations for Blue Economy development; hence, a shift in marine governance has seriously impacted coastal communities, particularly seaweed farmers.

As a result, a group of coastal women from Jeneponto, or the KPNS, has conducted a study to explore the impact of large-scale shrimp farming companies through the FPAR approach.  The group has worked in the field to learn and understand the residents’ experience and documented the changes.  The online gathering discussed the FPAR findings and provided a space to share knowledge and joint reflection, highlighting the Blue Economy’s narrative as the voice of those affected and not just a framework or rules-based governance to drive sustainable economic growth and innovation.
