RUML responding to impact of climate- with farmers and fisherfolks

The Rural-Urban Market Link (RUML) team recently organized an orientation with the Mansalay Farmers and Fisherfolks Development Cooperative (MAFFDECO) to discuss the challenges of climate change.    MAFFDECO is a farmers’ organization (FO) from Mansalay, Mindoro Oriental, engaged in farming and fishing, with 3,385 members predominantly women and nearly 30% youth.

Presently, the FO is experiencing a scarcity of production due to El Niño or drought on the island, and traders are offering low prices for their products, such as Php 36/kilo of red onions.    The RUML is currently exploring possibilities to find sustainable solutions to support farmers in these challenges.

RUML is a seven-consortium project led by GlowCorp and funded by the USAID.
