The Thailand Partnership for the Development of Human Resources for Rural Areas (ThaiDHRRA) in collaboration with AsiaDHRRA, organized the National Consultation to promote Agroecology in the context of ASEAN on 26 April 2024 at Baan Suan Sum Saeng, Tha Khon Yang, Kantharawichai District, Maha Sarakham Province.  The gathering was participated by various stakeholders from Thai Volunteer Service, Sustainable Agriculture, Thailand, Alternative Agriculture Network, Northeastern Sustainable Agriculture Knowledge Management Institute, BioThai, World Wildlife Thailand, and Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection of the Federal Republic of Germany and supported by the Agroecology Alliance/Alliance Bioversity International – CIAT, and the ASEAN.

Discussions centered on the country’s lessons learned and the possibilities of communities and localities to create a system and adaptation addressing the national crisis and issues on climate change.  The forum presented proposals to the government and concerned agencies to generate agricultural policy/guidelines to support a regional master plan.  Furthermore, the guideline will serve as a framework to create understanding and directions to empower stakeholders in the national and ASEAN communities.

The workshop underlined significant recommendations to the government and ASEAN on creating directions and guidelines for agroecological model operations, adaptation, and master plans that will strengthen farmers and locals and support systems on climate change issues to advance the agroecological transition process.
