The Philippine Partnership for the Development of Human Resources in Rural Areas (PhilDHRRA), in collaboration with AsiaDHRRA, organized a National Consultation to promote Agroecology in the context of ASEAN on 30 April 2024.  The assembly served as a platform to discuss relevant ASEAN frameworks and national agroecological policies and programs from stakeholders representing family farmers organizations, civil society organizations, the government, the private sector, academe/research institutes, and development partners.

In particular, the gathering highlighted the overview of the ASEAN Masterplan on Rural Development and Poverty Eradication (RDPE) and the ASEAN guidelines on Sustainable Agriculture.  More importantly, a workshop was convened to compile inputs on policy guidelines supporting agroecology transition in the region, recommendations for concrete actions based on current opportunities, and methods to develop and strengthen partnerships to support agroecology at the national level.

Important partners and funders from regional and national levels joined and contributed to the event, with representations from the  Agroecology Alliance/Alliance Bioversity International – CIAT (funding agencies), the ASEAN, the Lao Facilitated Initiative on Agroecology for ASEAN (LICA), SOMRDPE focal point, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UNFAO), the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC), the Department of Agriculture (DA), the Asian Farmers’ Association, and the Pambansang Kilusan ng mga Samahang Magsasaka (PAKISAMA), and was held at the Oracle Hotel and Residences, Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City, and via Zoom conference.
