Asian NGO Leaders Dialogue on Globalization

Rural NGO leaders from various generations and culture from 10 Asian countries met in Cyberjaya last October 28-31, 2003 to reflect together and share ideas and experiences on rural NGO leadership amidst globalization.
There was a dynamic exchange of stories and points of view on the personal and societal effect of WTO on the poor and marginalized, particularly in the rural areas.
A Declaration on Globalization was issued on the last day of the dialogue emphasizing the need for Asian NGO leaders to push for alternative arrangements of economic cooperation and to promote a more ethical globalization.
A consensus was also reached to strengthen the ties and sustain the forum among NGO leaders through dialogue in the light of the many common challenges seen in our communities. The leaders’ dialogue was a launching activity of AsiaDHRRA’s NGO Leadership Development Program.
